Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. The actor was 75 years old at the time of his death. Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating and fails to pump blood around the body, and it can strike without any warning. Dr Parin Sangoi, a consultant interventional cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central, explains that a cardiac arrest differs from other heart issues because it stems from an electrical disorder. This electrical failure stops the heart from beating effectively, which cuts off the blood supply to the brain and other vital organs.
Context
Cardiac arrests are medical emergencies that require immediate medical attention to restore blood flow. They are distinct from heart attacks, though a heart attack can sometimes trigger the electrical problems that lead to a cardiac arrest.
