Bengaluru Metro Starts Depot Trial Runs for Upcoming Blue Line
Reported by Tanvi Pillai (Section Editor) · The Hindu - National ·
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited ran a test train on Saturday at the Byappanahalli depot to prepare for the new Blue Line. Workers checked the electrical systems, looked at the rolling stock, and checked for any objects or parts blocking the tracks. Testing will soon move to the main line, and officials note that trials will start again next week depending on worker availability after the Deepavali festival. Bharat Earth Movers Limited built the driverless trainset used for these trials. The Blue Line includes Metro Phases 2A and 2B to link the city directly to the Kempegowda International Airport. The K.R. Puram to airport route spans 38.44 kilometres, while the K.R. Puram to Central Silk Board section is 19.75 kilometres long.
Context
Test runs are a mandatory safety step before any new metro line opens to the general public. These trials ensure that the tracks, power systems, and train coaches work smoothly together without any technical faults.
