Bangalore University announced it will set up dedicated placement hubs in each of its 274 affiliated undergraduate and postgraduate colleges, both government‑run and private, to improve job prospects for students. The move follows complaints that existing placement officers in some colleges were inactive, leaving students poorly informed about openings. Sarvamangala, director of the university's Pre‑Examination Coaching Centre and Placement Cell, explained that students and parents rank placements high when choosing a college, yet current job options are scarce and information is often inaccurate. She added that while the university runs its own annual placement drives, extending those benefits to all affiliated institutions has been challenging, prompting the new network of cells. To coordinate efforts, the university created a WhatsApp group that links principals and placement officers from every college, allowing daily updates from government, corporate and private recruiters to be shared instantly; the recipients then pass the details on to students. Sarvamangala noted that companies frequently offer pre‑employment training when skill gaps are identified, providing both online and offline programs, sometimes as part of corporate social responsibility. Some firms also sponsor coaching for competitive exams such as the UPSC, Karnataka Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, as well as banking and insurance tests. The university has already organized two large‑scale placement drives and says the expectations of Gen‑Z job seekers require a fresh approach. Vice‑Chancellor C. Shivaraju said the initiative will deepen ties between industry and academia and boost graduate employability. ## Context These placement hubs aim to bridge the information gap between recruiters and students in a state where many colleges rely on the central university for career services, a model increasingly adopted across Indian higher‑education institutions.
