The Indian stock market is hosting its special 70-minute Muhurat Trading session today, Sunday, 8 November 2026, running from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM. Over the past decade, key indices Sensex and Nifty 50 have ended higher for eight straight sessions, finishing in the red only in 2016 and 2017. Data from HDFC Sky shows that between 2006 and 2025, the Nifty 50 closed lower on just five occasions, giving it and the Sensex an 80 percent decadal strike rate.

Market Outlook

Mahesh M Ojha, VP of Research and Business Development at KC Securities, expects the indices to end higher today due to positive global and domestic sentiments signaling a gap-up opening. He notes that the Nifty 50 has immediate support at 24,800 and resistance around 25,200 as Samvat 2083 begins. For the special session, Ojha has recommended three low-priced stock picks priced under fifty rupees.

Stock Picks

The first recommendation is PC Jeweller, with a suggested buying range of 15 to 16 rupees, targets of 18, 21, and 24 rupees, and a stop loss below 11.80 rupees. The second is Suzlon Energy, recommended in the 38 to 38.80 rupee range with targets of 40.50, 43, and 46 rupees, and a stop loss at 35.70 rupees. The third pick is Vedanta Power, suggested between 34.50 and 35.50 rupees with targets of 38, 41, and 45 rupees, and a stop loss at 31 rupees.

Context

Muhurat Trading is a symbolic and auspicious stock market trading session held annually in India during Diwali to mark the start of the Hindu traditional calendar year, known as Samvat. Volumes are typically thin and sessions are short because traders view it as a time for token investments rather than large-scale day trading. Financial analysts routinely issue special stock recommendations specifically tailored for this brief session.
