Senior Rajasthan BJP leader and Behror MLA Jaswant Yadav passes away at 73 in Jaipur

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Jaswant Yadav died on Sunday morning in Jaipur at the age of 73 following a prolonged battle with cancer. His son, Mohit Yadav, confirmed that his father breathed his last at 8:15 a.m. while undergoing treatment at a Jaipur hospital. Leaders across political lines, including Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, expressed their condolences over his demise.

Political Journey

Dr. Yadav served as a four-time MLA and represented Alwar in the Lok Sabha during his long political career. He started his electoral journey in 1998 by winning the Assembly seat from Mundawar, and was subsequently elected to the Lok Sabha from Alwar in 1999. He later shifted to the Behror constituency, winning the seat in 2008 and retaining it in 2013 before serving as a Cabinet minister in the Vasundhara Raje-led government from 2016 to 2018. Following his death, the strength of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has dropped to 199, and a by-election for Behror is expected within six months.

Final Rites

His mortal remains were placed at his residence in Jaswant Nagar, Alwar, for public tributes on Sunday afternoon. His last rites are scheduled to be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday at his native village of Silpata in the Khairthal-Tijara district.
