PM Modi Warns Ideological Naxals Remain A Threat In Bastar
Reported by Rituparna Sen (Section Editor) · Hindustan Times - India ·
Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Sunday that the threat of Naxalism persists despite the elimination of armed Maoists, pointing to ideological supporters whom he termed 'dimagi Naxals'. Addressing security personnel during Diwali celebrations at a Central Reserve Police Force camp in Karanpur in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, Modi said these elements have infiltrated political parties and various organisations to instigate people against the Constitution and democracy.
Action And Policy
Modi described the removal of armed Maoists as a success for government policies and strong political will, noting that past governments restricted security forces while his administration gave them the freedom to take necessary decisions. He stated that the government acted to dismantle Left-Wing Extremism support networks, break funding channels, and destroy counterfeit currency operations. He added that for the first time in 47 years, zero CRPF personnel died in the line of duty over the preceding year.
Context
Bastar has long served as a major centre for Left-Wing Extremism in India before recent security operations and development efforts changed the ground situation. The Central Reserve Police Force is a prominent central armed police force tasked with internal security and counter-insurgency duties across the country.
