"They Threatened Him Earlier Too": Son Of Manipur Musician Beaten To Death

A 54-year-old Manipuri musician, Vikram Singh, was brutally beaten to death outside his residence in southeast Delhi's Kilokari after he objected to noise and commotion near his home. Singh, a music teacher and lead guitarist of the legendary Manipur rock band Phoenix, died during treatment at the Holy Family Hospital. According to his wife, Joshna Chongtham, a simple request to lower the volume escalated into fatal violence. Singh was chased back up to his doorstep and brutally beaten with fists and heavy blows by a mob of eight men before they fled. The victim's son, Yaifaba, identified the accused men in his police complaint, stating that they had previously threatened Singh whenever he had stopped them from drinking alcohol. The Delhi Police have arrested seven people in connection with the death, including a juvenile. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has written a formal letter to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, expressing deep concern over the incident and demanding an independent probe. Singh was a prominent figure in Manipur's rock music scene, having played with bands such as Ultra Vires and Eastern Dark. The victim's family has stated that they do not seek revenge, but justice. They have expressed gratitude for the support they have received from well-wishers following the incident. The South East Deputy Commissioner of Police has stated that Singh had an argument with some people in his lane over a lot of noise coming, which led to a physical altercation. The accused men were seen leaving the building after the assault, as captured in CCTV footage. The family is urging the implementation of protective measures for the North Eastern community residing in Delhi. Rekha Gupta, Delhi Chief Minister, has been asked to intervene in the case.
