Four volunteers of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) from Telangana were taken into custody by railway police in Bhopal while on their way to New Delhi for the party’s planned October 10 demonstration. The men – Stanley, Rangasai, Rajesh and Venky – were travelling on a train bound for the capital when officials entered their carriage during a scheduled stop and ordered them to get off. The party says they were then placed under preventive custody. CJP called the action a violation of the volunteers’ right to travel and to join a peaceful protest. It has asked the Bhopal railway authorities and local police to explain the legal basis for the interception and to release the four activists immediately. Founder and co‑founder Abhijeet Dipke posted on X, stating, "CJP Telangana volunteers got detained from Bhopal. MP police detained them from the train. It couldn't be more evident that Modi is a psychotic dictator." Civil‑rights groups, relatives and fellow party members have also demanded the volunteers’ release and urged that all travelers heading to Delhi for the October 10 rally be allowed to continue their journey. The party seeks accountability from the railway and police for the detention.
Context
Detentions of protest participants often raise questions about the balance between security measures and democratic freedoms. In India, authorities sometimes use preventive custody to curb gatherings they deem risky, prompting legal challenges from civil‑society groups.
