HDFC Bank has proposed a yearly pay package of Rs 35.9 crore for Anup Bagchi, which is subject to approval from shareholders. This proposed payment includes a fixed pay part, bonus pay tied to performance, and a one-time joining bonus. This amount is much higher than what outgoing CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan and other bank heads receive. Shareholders will vote on this plan through a postal ballot until November 6.
Additional Incentives
The private sector bank has also approved an extra one-time joining bonus worth Rs 7.35 crore in stock-linked rewards for Bagchi.
Context
Remuneration packages of top bank executives in India are closely regulated and require explicit shareholder consent to ensure transparency and alignment with performance. Large private lenders often use high-value stock incentives and bonuses to attract top-tier leadership talent from the industry.
