Director Abhishek Pathak's crime thriller Drishyam 3 has closed its first week at the box office with over Rs 383.60 crore in gross worldwide earnings and Rs 245.50 crore net in India.

Daily Collections And Screens

On Thursday, which marked day seven, the Ajay Devgn-starrer added another Rs 13 crore from 15,758 screens across the country. This marked a 16.1 percent drop from its Wednesday collection of Rs 15.50 crore, following a 25 percent decrease from Tuesday's Rs 19.50 crore earnings. The film previously pulled in Rs 21 crore on day four after starting strong with a massive Rs 62 crore opening day on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti, followed by Rs 53.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 61 crore on its first Sunday.

Franchise And Career Milestones

With a domestic net collection of Rs 245.50 crore, the movie has comfortably surpassed the lifetime earnings of its predecessor, Drishyam 2, which made Rs 239.67 crore in 2022, and the first film in the franchise, which brought in over Rs 67 crore in 2015. It has also beaten past Devgn hits like Golmaal Again, Total Dhamaal, Shaitaan, and Singham Returns to become the second highest-grossing film of Devgn's career as a lead actor. His highest-grossing solo lead film remains Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior at Rs 279.59 crore net, while RRR crossed that figure with Devgn in an extended guest appearance.

Future Box Office Run

Overseas markets contributed Rs 4 crore on day seven to reach an overseas gross of Rs 89 crore. The film recorded 6,13,328 footfalls on Thursday alone, taking its total first-week footfalls past 1.01 crore. With no new Hindi films releasing this week, the makers of the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan-starrer Udta Teer postponed their release date from October 9 to October 23, leaving Drishyam 3 with a clear path for its second weekend.

Context

Sequels to established franchise films often benefit from built-in audience loyalty and strong recall value at the box office. When a major movie performs exceptionally well in its opening days, competing studios frequently reschedule their own releases to avoid splitting screen counts and ticket sales.
