Tata Consultancy Services stated that a fresh U.S. government suspension of the Permanent Labor Certification Program will not affect its worker strategy or client projects. The U.S. suspended several tech firms from the PERM program on Thursday, which lets companies apply for green cards for H-1B visa workers. Other companies named in the suspension include Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Capgemini, Microsoft, and Adobe.
Company Response
TCS noted that its PERM applications stayed in the single digits over the past two years. The company will comply with any U.S. government rule to keep running its business there. A permanent labor certification from the Department of Labor lets an employer hire a foreign worker for permanent jobs in the U.S.
Hiring Plans
The firm pointed to an earlier plan to hire fifteen thousand people in the U.S. over a five-year span to boost its local workforce. Its U.S. worker strategy relies heavily on hiring local talent and strong campus hiring. TCS has built a large local workforce across 31 offices and delivery centers across the country.
Context
Visa and labor rules in the United States often change, pushing large tech service firms to rely more on local hiring rather than foreign workers. Green card programs like PERM are a key part of how companies help skilled workers stay long-term in the country.
