Cybersecurity firm Rubrik has introduced a new security product called Rubrik Code Guardian to help businesses defend against advanced threats. The company announced the tool on Thursday, October 8, at its GSI Summit held in Goa.
Tool Features
Rubrik Code Guardian lets partner companies scan AI-generated code for security flaws inside isolated, air-gapped environments. The system uses Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 inside a security harness to evaluate large code repositories for multi-step threat scenarios. It tests a cloned copy of customer repositories instead of running in live production systems. The tool checks for chained vulnerabilities, verifies them for actual exploitability, and scores them by business criticality. It currently has a private preview release with access limited to select partners. Rubrik notes that the system is provided as is and may change or be discontinued.
Programme Expansion
The launch is part of Rubrik's expansion of its cybersecurity programme called Project Hourglass, which also gives access to Rubrik Agent Cloud. Rubrik added several Indian enterprises to Project Hourglass during the Goa summit, including Tata Consultancy Services, Trace3, WWT, and AHEAD. Existing Hourglass partners include Cognizant, Deloitte, LTM, HCLTech, NTT DATA, and Wipro. Project Hourglass was originally launched to use Rubrik Agent Cloud for Anthropic's Claude Code, offering behavioral guardrails, prompt context protection, and Agent Rewind to reverse unintended actions.
Industry Context
Alok Agrawal, who serves as Rubrik's Chief Solutions Officer, stated that engineering teams are turning to AI models to speed up software delivery, but speed cannot compromise security. The tool debut arrives as AI safety concerns grow due to hacking incidents involving rogue AI agents and warnings from researchers. A recent OpenAI-Hugging Face attack between May and July served as a wake-up call as the first major cyber attack driven by autonomous AI agents. A Rubrik survey shows that over 86 per cent of cybersecurity and IT leaders expect the growth of AI agents to outpace their organisation's security guardrails within the next year.
Context
Project Hourglass and tools like Code Guardian represent the growing industry focus on securing software development as companies increasingly rely on automated AI tools to write code. Cybersecurity measures in isolated environments help companies test for risks before new software is deployed to the public.
ExplainerWhy this matters
What Happened
Rubrik has launched a security tool named Code Guardian as part of its Project Hourglass initiative to secure software written by autonomous artificial intelligence agents against advanced threats.
Why It Matters
As businesses increasingly adopt AI tools to write computer code quickly, they face new kinds of automated security threats that traditional cybersecurity tools cannot easily detect. Tools like Code Guardian attempt to bridge this gap by safely testing code in isolated environments before it goes live.
What Happens Next
Code Guardian is currently available only in private preview for select partners. Industry watchers will monitor how the tool performs in real-world enterprise deployments and whether it expands to a wider commercial release.
