Director Nelson Dilipkumar and actor Rajinikanth initially had doubts about making a sequel to their 2023 hit film Jailer. A special show for Jailer 2 premiered on Sun NXT on Friday to share details about the upcoming movie instead of a normal pre-release event. Rajinikanth stated that he usually does not like doing sequels because he feels they just add extra spice to the first part. He previously turned down sequel offers for his past films Baasha and Petta. However, watching the end of Jailer on OTT made him change his mind. He noticed that Varman's warning about his large network and the three containers worth ₹1000 crore left open room for a second part. Rajinikanth also shared that Nelson was unsure at first because many stars and studios from Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil film industries were offering him big projects. Nelson initially felt they had already used up all the best content. After thinking about it for a month, he changed his mind and put aside a planned Telugu film project to work on the sequel. While fans previously thought Nelson might work with Jr NTR due to a hint given last year, Jr NTR later confirmed a film with producer Naga Vamsi and Trivikram Srinivas. Meanwhile, Jailer 2 is set to hit the big screen on October 16.
Context
Sequels are very common in the film industry when a first movie becomes a major box office hit. Actors and directors often take time to build a strong script before returning to popular characters like Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
