Drone strike shuts production at Iraq's Khor Mor gas field
Reported by Siddharth Deshmukh (Staff Writer) Β· The Hindu - International Β·
Production at Iraq's Khor Mor gas field was stopped on Sunday after a drone struck the site, two security sources said. The field, one of the largest in the Kurdistan region, supplies gas for power plants across the area. Smoke rose from the complex shortly after the blast, visible to nearby observers. An engineer working at the field reported that the drone hit a gas storage unit, damaging the structure. All personnel on site were ordered to take shelter amid fears of additional attacks. The shutdown interrupts the flow of gas that fuels regional electricity generation. Officials have not yet given a timeline for resuming operations. The attack occurred on November 8, 2026.
Context
The Khor Mor field is a key source of natural gas for Iraq's northern grid, and any disruption can affect power reliability for households and businesses. Drone attacks on energy sites have become a growing security concern in the broader Middle East.
