India's Space-Tech Ambitions Get A Boost, GalaxEye Secures US Patent For OptoSAR Imaging Technology

Indian space technology startup GalaxEye has secured a US patent for its OptoSAR imaging technology, a breakthrough that bolsters the company's intellectual property portfolio as it prepares to launch a 30-satellite Earth observation constellation. The patented technology combines optical imaging and Synthetic Aperture Radar sensors on a unified platform, capturing spatially and temporally aligned data. In contrast to traditional methods, where data is combined post-processing, GalaxEye's patented architecture synchronises optical and microwave sensors at the system level, allowing for matched data collection simultaneously. This innovation has the potential to revolutionise the way data is captured and processed, offering enhanced visual and spectral capabilities. The technology is also central to Mission Drishti, the world's first OptoSAR imaging satellite, which was launched in May. GalaxEye founder and CEO Suyash Singh hailed the patent as a testament to Indian deep-tech companies' ability to develop globally differentiated technologies. The company plans to utilise its technology for defence, government, and commercial applications across various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, insurance, maritime intelligence, and disaster management. With the acquisition of Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering company StarOps in August, GalaxEye is strengthening its in-house capabilities. The company aims to launch its next-generation satellites, imaging payloads, and advanced data processing capabilities in the coming years. With the US patent in hand, GalaxEye is poised to take a significant leap forward in its space-tech ambitions.
