The Mahindra XEV 9S has logged 3,743 registrations in August 2026, solidifying its position as India's best-selling electric car for the second consecutive month. The XEV 9S, priced at Rs 20.65 lakh ex-showroom, has outperformed the Tata Punch EV and MG Windsor, despite being the most expensive among the three. Mahindra registered over 6,400 EVs during the month, making it the second-largest electric passenger-vehicle manufacturer behind Tata Motors. The XEV 9S alone accounted for well over half of Mahindra's electric registrations. In August, the XEV 9S's variant mix revealed that 81% of its registrations came from the 79 kWh battery variant, with the Pack Two Above configuration being the most popular. The XEV 9S's performance is notable, as individual-model EV sales are usually associated with more affordable cars and crossovers. The XEV 9S's lead over the Punch EV and Windsor remains small, but its strong demand has been confirmed for two consecutive months. The result also suggests that July was not a one-time spike, as the XEV 9S has now beaten its rivals in registrations for two months in a row.
