Sonam Wangchuk said he will not be able to join the Cockroach Janata Party's protest in Delhi on October 10. In a video posted on X, the Ladakh‑based climate and education activist explained that government actions continue to hinder his work, yet he is preparing for another winter. He detailed ongoing projects such as building artificial glaciers for water security and running experiments to prevent glacial‑lake outburst floods, describing them as efforts to defuse more than 200 potential water‑bombs in the high Himalayas. Quoting poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Wangchuk warned that there are sorrows beyond politics and urged protest leaders to stay united and show statesmanship. He asked Gen‑Z participants to remain absolutely peaceful, recalling the “gift of Baapu” he tried to bring to Jantar Mantar in June. Wangchuk had earlier led the June protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan; his fast drew nationwide crowds to Jantar Mantar and, after authorities removed him on health grounds, the movement grew and eventually led to Pradhan’s exit. ## Context He remains in Ladakh to continue climate‑resilience work, a priority for the Himalayan region that faces increasing glacial melt and flood risk.
