Daily coal supplies to power plants have grown by 36 percent from their low points in September, with October averages running nine percent higher than the previous month. Rail-based dispatches have reached an average of 465 rakes a day, alongside improvements in road transport.

Additional Supply Options

State-owned Coal India and its sister companies recently gave power stations with current supply pacts a chance to lift extra coal over their yearly limits via road transport. The Coal Ministry notes that stock depletion has slowed down sharply from 0.243 million tonnes a day in September to 0.116 million tonnes in October.

Context
