Meta says it is using artificial intelligence tools to find child sexual abuse material on Instagram and Facebook in India.
New Methods
The company is using large language models to spot illegal content, along with artificial intelligence sweeps of ads and greater ad transparency. Meta also uses a red-teaming artificial intelligence agent to find vulnerabilities and tries to catch bad actors who make new accounts after being banned.
Action Numbers
Between January and June 2026, Meta took action on 5.3 million pieces of child sexual exploitation content on both platforms in India. The company states that over 98% of this content was found and addressed proactively before any user reported it.
Context
Social media companies face strict legal rules and government oversight regarding child safety on their digital platforms. Technology firms increasingly rely on automated systems to scan billions of posts and advertisements every day.
