Ajay Devgn has started filming the war drama Chauhaan in the high‑altitude town of Kargil, Ladakh. The actor recently wrapped the successful Drishyam The Conclusion, which opened over the October 2 holiday weekend. A local source said Devgn arrived in Kargil a few days ago and the crew began shooting key scenes in the scenic area. Permissions were secured beforehand and the team set up extensive logistics to keep the schedule on track. Cold temperatures, the source added, will give the footage a genuine feel. This is not Devgn’s first stint in the region; he shot important sequences for J P Dutta’s LOC: Kargil back in 2003 when Ladakh was still part of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2019 the area was reorganised as a Union Territory with Leh and Kargil as its twin capitals. Chauhaan is directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the banners Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions. The project was announced on June 25 2026, the birth anniversary of Devgn’s late father Veeru Devgan. It is slated for a theatrical release on October 1 2027. The launch video featured the classic track “Jumma Chumma De De” and closed with the line “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai.” The film also marks Devgn’s first collaboration with filmmaker Aanand L Rai, while Jio Studios will act as both presenter and producer, holding 50 % of the intellectual property and full exploitation and music rights. ## Context Shooting in Kargil’s harsh winter adds realism to war stories, and Ladakh’s change to Union Territory status in 2019 means the location now falls under a separate administrative setup, affecting film permits and logistics.
