Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has bought a new electric luxury car. He took delivery of the BMW i7 50 xDrive, which is the electric version of the German carmaker's top sedan.
Car Details
The car costs Rs 1.95 crore before local taxes. It has an electric motor that makes 455 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The car can go from zero to 100 kmph in 5.5 seconds. It runs on a 112.5 kWh battery pack and offers a driving range of up to 728 km on the WLTP cycle. Inside, it has a large rear screen, a Bowers and Wilkins sound system, and executive lounge seats. The car is made at the BMW plant in Chennai, which makes India the only country outside Germany to build this electric model.
Brand Ties
This purchase follows the actor becoming the brand ambassador for BMW India. He also helped launch the new 7 Series range in New Delhi in September.
Context
Electric vehicles are becoming more common among luxury car buyers in India as top brands bring their latest models to the local market. Local assembly helps carmakers keep prices competitive by avoiding high import taxes on fully built vehicles.
