Veteran actor Raza Murad has discussed his cousin Zeenat Aman's early life and the much-discussed physical assault involving actor Sanjay Khan. Speaking on a podcast, Raza shared that his mother and Zeenat's father were siblings, and noted that her childhood was shaped by her parents splitting up when she was young. He mentioned that she grew up as an only child moving between her parents, spent time feeling isolated at a convent boarding school in Panchgani, and lacked a stable family life after her parents married other people.

The Sanjay Khan Incident

Raza addressed the widely known conflict between Zeenat and Sanjay Khan, which allegedly caused lasting damage to her right eye. He recalled that Zeenat hurried from Lonavala to Mumbai for a meeting at a hotel where the physical altercation occurred, leaving her injured. While pointing out that people should expect heavy fallout when entering relationships with partners who are already married, such as Sanjay's marriage to Zarine Khan, Raza stated clearly that hitting a woman is never acceptable under any conditions. Sanjay Khan has previously denied these claims, calling them a one-sided public relations attack and asserting that her eye condition was genetic rather than the result of a physical blow.

Later Marriages and Context

Beyond that incident, Raza also spoke about Zeenat's subsequent marriage to actor Mazhar Khan, whom Raza counted as a close personal friend before learning of their wedding. He recalled that Mazhar's health started declining roughly a year and a half after they married and he failed to recover. Zeenat herself has spoken in past interviews about mentally blocking out unpleasant memories to cope with them, and mentioned on social media that her eye injury led to a drooping eyelid and blocked sight.

Context

Public interest in the personal lives and past relationships of veteran film stars often revives when contemporary actors or family members discuss historical media reports in interviews. These retrospective accounts bring decades-old controversies back into the public eye, highlighting how celebrity relationships and personal struggles are remembered differently by those involved.
