The family of Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke remains unsure if he can return home for his grandmother's last rites after his detention by police in the national capital. Savitribai Dipke passed away at the age of eighty-five at the family home in a village located in Maharashtra's Hingoli district on Saturday morning. She had been dealing with age-related health issues for over a month and spent time in hospital weeks prior.

Family Reaction

Dipke's father, Bhagwanrao Dipke, stated that relatives have been unable to reach his son since authorities held him and do not know if he will make it back in time. His mother, Anita Dipke, recalled that her son had spent over an hour talking with his grandmother in the hospital on August 15, adding that she hoped he would be able to pay his final respects. Party members and family stated that they have had no direct contact with him, while a party official claimed that even legal representatives have been denied access.

Context

Activists and political figures are sometimes detained by law enforcement ahead of planned protests or demonstrations to maintain public order. Families caught in such situations often face intense distress when personal family emergencies overlap with sudden legal actions or police custody.
