Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday that India and America will finalize their trade pact by keeping changed circumstances in mind. Both nations had announced a framework for an interim trade agreement back in February. India is currently asking for lower taxes on its goods in American markets compared to what its competitors get. Goyal did not explain what those exact changes were. The shifting tax rules in the US have caused more talks about the first phase of this bilateral trade agreement. He recently met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer at the G20 trade ministers meeting in Milwaukee to discuss these issues.
Global Trade Talks
India is also holding trade talks with several other regions. These include Israel, Chile, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union. Talks with Canada are moving fast, and discussions with the South African Customs Union will start soon. Trade ministers from the UK and Canada will visit India next week. The UK minister is coming for the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting, following a trade agreement implemented in July. India will also launch trade talks with Mexico next week.
Political Clash
Apart from trade, Goyal criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent statements. An opposition delegation met President Droupadi Murmu on Friday to submit a memorandum about alleged vote theft. Gandhi later claimed that the President accepted their charges. Goyal called this behavior objectionable and an insult to the President, adding that opposition leaders also mistreated security personnel.
Context
Trade agreements help countries buy and sell goods easily by reducing taxes and import limits. Government leaders often update these deals when economic conditions or political leadership changes in partner nations. India maintains active trade ties and ongoing talks with multiple global partners at the same time.

Negotiators from both countries will continue working out the details based on current economic and policy conditions. Meanwhile, trade delegations from other nations like the UK, Canada, and Mexico are visiting India to advance separate economic ties.
