England captain Jones calls for fertility support

England captain Meg Jones is calling for the Red Roses to have access to fertility support and egg freezing. The 29-year-old, who took over the captaincy in March, revealed she has already started her fertility journey with her fiancée after visiting a clinic to have their egg count checked. Jones says she wants to 'share her journey' as she discusses both her upcoming wedding and family planning with equal comfort. The Red Roses have one of the best maternity policies in international women's sport, with two World Cup winners having recently given birth and two more expecting. A Rugby Football Union spokesperson said they work hard to support players in their fertility and family planning decisions and are proud of their industry-leading support. Ongoing discussions are underway to explore the possibility of introducing financial compensation for fertility treatment for England players. The RFU already provides a week of paid leave per treatment cycle for treatment and appointments. Jones first brought up the idea while discussing the Spanish football federation's announcement that it would pay for its international women's players to freeze their eggs. Chelsea Women recently unveiled a partnership with a fertility company to provide workshops, treatments, counselling, and assessments to support their players. The fund set up by Chelsea would cover the cost of the whole squad freezing their eggs. Jones told BBC Sport that not having access to this support is a significant issue for her and many other female players.
