Traffic restrictions will stay in place on Sunday with diversions at about 30 key points as protests over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar intensify.
What Happened
The Delhi Traffic Police advisory issued late Saturday orders diversions from 6 am, affecting routes near Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Patel Chowk and several other central intersections. Police have set up barricades on the Delhi‑Gurugram Expressway near Sirhaul Toll Plaza for security checks.
Reaction
CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde told reporters at HKS Surjeet Bhawan that daily marches to Jantar Mantar will continue until Kumar is removed. He also claimed protesters such as Abhijeet Dipke faced inhumane treatment while in police detention. SFI general secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya said students will hold peaceful rallies and turn blocked spots into protest sites.
Context
The curbs are a response to the Cockroach Janta Party’s demand to oust the election chief, a demand backed by student groups. Traffic officers said they will ease the measures if the situation improves and urged commuters to check official updates.
