Amazon is changing the leaders of its Alexa team just one day after launching its first tablets with the voice assistant. Daniel Rausch, who led Alexa and Echo for more than three years, is leaving the unit next month. Rausch has spent 17 years at Amazon and often spoke at global product launches. He will take on a new role inside the company's devices and services division in 2027.

New Leadership

Aidan Marcuss will take over the Alexa division. Marcuss currently looks after Fire TV, advertising, and the Amazon appstore, and he joined Amazon from Microsoft in early 2025. He recently oversaw the release of a new Fire TV stick. Meanwhile, product and marketing vice president Kevin Keith will take on Marcuss's current responsibilities for now. Amazon did not share any further details about the reshuffle.

Product Details

The leadership shift follows the unveiling of Amazon's new high-end Alexa Tablets on Thursday. These devices run on a new generative AI version of the voice assistant called Alexa+, which can handle longer prompts. Amazon has spent several years building this upgraded service. Alexa+ is part of the $139-per-year Prime membership or costs $20 a month on its own.

Context

Voice assistants like Alexa have been a major focus for tech companies, though they often cost a lot to run and maintain. Amazon is now trying to monetize its new AI features by bundling them into higher-end hardware and subscription plans. These changes show how the company is shifting its strategy to make its voice technology profitable.
