A man died on Saturday after entering the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. Emergency medical crews arrived at about 1:35 p.m. after the incident was reported, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, South Yorkshire Police said. The tiger involved was unharmed and stayed inside the enclosure throughout. Police evacuated the park and kept officers on site through Saturday night while investigations continued. The park issued a statement saying it is working with authorities to determine exactly what happened. Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which opened in 2009, launched its two‑acre “Land of the Tigers” reserve in 2011. The reserve houses endangered Amur (Siberian) tigers and features a 300‑metre raised walkway that lets visitors watch the cats move through woodlands, grasslands and a waterfall pool.

Context

Amur tigers are listed as endangered, so reserves like this aim to protect the species while offering close viewing. Such enclosures require strict safety rules to prevent accidental entry, highlighting the risks when those rules are breached.
