Sharat Sinha, chief executive of Airtel Business, says that strong guardrails and the government’s forthcoming AI regulation are essential to unlock major productivity gains for enterprises.

What Happened

Sinha told PTI that the architecture and methods for safely deploying AI will keep evolving, just like previous technologies. He welcomed the government’s plan to issue a consultation paper on AI safety, deepfakes and a human‑first approach, calling it a step in the right direction. He added that Airtel works closely with regulators and customers to stay compliant and will play an active role in shaping the specifications.

Reaction

The CEO said that clear regulations will let firms deploy AI safely and boost output across the country. He expects cloud services, cybersecurity, Internet of Things, next‑generation connectivity and communications‑platform‑as‑a‑service to drive Airtel’s growth for the next three years. He also noted that Airtel’s own spam‑prevention tool, launched a little over a year ago, has dramatically cut fraud on its telecom network, a vital point as almost half of the world’s digital financial transactions flow through India’s UPI system.

Context

AI guardrails are technical and policy controls that keep intelligent systems from acting beyond their intended tasks. In India, rapid AI adoption creates demand for reliable digital infrastructure that combines cloud, data centres, connectivity and strong cybersecurity.
