Northern Railway has restored 214 passenger trains after the normalisation of rail traffic in the Delhi area. Thirty trains will still remain cancelled today.
Train Services
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, said train services were initially cancelled to manage heavy traffic congestion and ensure smooth operations in the Delhi area. The national transporter announced that all services would resume their normal schedules from Sunday, October 11. Restored routes include Delhi-Ghaziabad, Delhi-Aligarh, Agra-Palwal, New Delhi-Ghaziabad, Panipat-New Delhi, Kurukshetra Junction-Delhi, and Panipat-Ambala.
Cancellations
Even though most lines are cleared, specific trains such as numbers 64002, 64414, 64105, 64426, and 64567 remain cancelled. This follows a major disruption on Friday, when the Ministry of Railways cancelled 245 trains, including 75 mail and express services and 170 passenger trains, ahead of a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party in the national capital.
Context
Railways in the National Capital Region often adjust train operations and schedule cancellations during major protests or severe traffic congestion to prevent gridlock. Transport authorities typically restore regular timetables once crowd control measures succeed and normal tracks are cleared for safe transit.
