Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over appointment letters to 439 candidates on Sunday at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. The new hires received posts across the Cooperation, Labour Welfare, Public Health Engineering, and Water Resources departments. This latest round brings the total number of government appointments under the current administration's two terms to 1,65,749.
Department Details
The Assam Co-operative Apex Bank filled 175 posts after recovering from past financial trouble through the use of technology and artificial intelligence. The Labour Welfare Department added 338 appointments over the past five years, alongside 12 newly appointed Insurance Medical Officers serving ESI dispensaries and hospitals. Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineering Department welcomed 184 Junior Engineers, and the Water Resources Department brought in 52 Assistant Engineers and 16 Junior Engineers.
Transparency And Warnings
Chief Minister Sarma stated that transparent recruitment has eliminated past controversies and allowed candidates to share their success publicly without fear of unfair accusations. However, he also expressed serious concern over recent incidents where newly appointed officers were caught taking bribes. He warned the youth against chasing material wealth through dishonest means and reminded them that government service is meant for helping the public.
Context
Public sector hiring drives are a major focus for state governments across India to boost employment and deliver public services efficiently. Ensuring fair and corruption-free recruitment examinations remains a key challenge for administrative bodies nationwide.
