Kimi Antonelli took victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, marking his eighth win out of fourteen races this season. Norris had started from pole and was leading comfortably when the virtual safety car (VSC) was deployed on lap 15. The VSC activation came after Norris had already passed the pit entry, preventing him from pitting under the reduced‑speed condition. Mercedes driver Antonelli and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen both entered the pits during the VSC, gaining a time advantage. The caution period ended before Norris could complete another lap to the pit lane, leaving him stranded on track while his rivals rejoined ahead. The timing of the VSC proved decisive, turning a likely Norris win into a loss despite his pole‑position start.
