Pakistan secured an 82-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20 International, taking an unassailable two-nil lead in the three-match series. Batting first after losing the toss, Pakistan posted 215 for three in 20 overs, marking their second-highest total in T20I history behind their 232 for six against England in 2021. Opener Sahibzada Farhan scored 73 runs from 45 balls, while in-form left-hander Maaz Sadaqat narrowly missed a maiden century, getting caught on the final ball for 96 runs off 51 deliveries. Both batsmen benefited from dropped catches by the Sri Lankan fielders during their innings. In response, Sri Lanka struggled against disciplined bowling and were restricted to 133 for seven in their 20 overs. Fast bowler Mohammad Imran wreaked havoc on the top order, finishing with impressive figures of three wickets for 11 runs in four overs, while Salman Mirsa struck in the very first over. Maheesh Theekshana top-scored for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 32, but the team suffered its third consecutive T20 series defeat away from home.
Context
International cricket series often involve tightly scheduled fixtures across multiple formats, requiring teams to adapt quickly between T20 matches and upcoming one-day internationals. Such matches highlight how crucial fielding standards and early breakthrough wickets can be in determining the outcome of high-scoring limited-overs games.
