One person died and several others were injured during an incident on a rollercoaster at the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park, located about 15 miles from Atlanta. The Cobb County Police Department is leading the investigation into the fatality. Aerial footage from news helicopters showed the Goliath rollercoaster stopped midway, with workers helping stranded riders off the track. Police identified the man who died as 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, an Atlanta resident. Witnesses told local media outlets that they saw a man come loose from his seat and fall from the ride, striking the rollercoaster structure and other passengers before landing on the roof of a nearby haunted house attraction. Officials have not yet released full details on how the death and other injuries occurred. Six Flags stated that it was deeply saddened by the incident and is fully cooperating with investigators. The company also announced it was temporarily closing nine rides across the US and Canada as a precaution. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens noted that the city public safety director was coordinating with local police and park security.

Context

Theme parks enforce strict safety guidelines and regular equipment checks, but high-speed thrill rides still occasionally face severe incidents that prompt extensive regulatory reviews. Six Flags operates numerous major parks across North America featuring large rollercoasters that routinely undergo safety testing. Major ride investigations typically involve local police detectives, park engineers, and public safety authorities working to examine maintenance logs and witness statements.
