Tarun Tejpal surrendered before a court in Goa today following a Supreme Court order in a rape case against him. The former Tehelka editor-in-chief turned himself in after the top court rejected his plea for more time to surrender. Tejpal had earlier sought an extension citing personal reasons and health concerns. The case dates back to 2013 when a female colleague accused him of sexual assault inside a hotel elevator during an event in Goa. He was later granted bail by the Bombay High Court in 2014, but a trial court acquitted him in May 2021. The Goa government challenged that acquittal in the high court, leading to ongoing legal battles. The Supreme Court has now directed him to complete the legal surrender process without further delay.
