UPDATE - follow-up to Zverev turns US Open tears into triumph: Alexander Zverev won the US Open men's final by defeating American player Ben Shelton in front of a crowd of 24,000 people. This victory makes Zverev only the second German man to win the US Open in the Open era, following Boris Becker. The win comes six years after Zverev suffered a tough defeat to Dominic Thiem in the final, where he had given up a two-set lead and failed to close out the match while serving in the fifth set.
