Demand for Ford's upcoming sub-$30K electric truck continues to rise even though the vehicle has not been officially revealed yet. While official pre-orders open in 2027, interested buyers can already sign up for a separate invite list to get in line early.
Vehicle Features
The 2028 Ford Fathom starts at $29,945 and features a long list of standard equipment. It is the first vehicle to use Ford's new Universal EV platform. The four-door truck includes a 400-volt electrical architecture with a lithium-iron-phosphate battery, bidirectional power capability to run tools and camping gear, and passenger room that Ford says beats a Toyota RAV4. Performance details and interior specs remain largely under wraps, though Ford states it will accelerate as fast as a four-cylinder Mustang and likely offer both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
Timeline
The Fathom will be fully revealed by the end of this year. Early pre-orders begin next year, and vehicle deliveries start in late 2027.
Context
Automakers often open early interest lists or reservation queues long before a new model enters production to gauge consumer demand and secure early buyers. Affordable electric vehicles are an emerging category as companies look to expand EV adoption beyond higher-priced luxury segments.
