The acclaimed HBO series Girls is returning for a five-episode limited revival scheduled for 2027. HBO announced on Tuesday that creator and star Lena Dunham will reunite with almost all of the original main cast for the return, which comes a decade after the show's original finale.
The Cast
Girls originally ran for six seasons between 2012 and 2017. Lena Dunham will return as Hannah, joined by Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah. Meanwhile, HBO has not yet stated whether original breakout star Adam Driver will reprise his role for the new episodes. Judd Apatow returns as an executive producer alongside Dunham, Ilene S. Landress, and Michael P. Cohen, while the main cast members will serve as co-executive producers.
Context
This revival marks one of the first major projects announced by HBO since the takeover of its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, by Skydance-owned Paramount. During its original run, the series explored the lives of young adults navigating relationships and careers in New York City, sparking widespread cultural conversations about its portrayal of millennial life.
