Director Abishek Pathak Rules Out Drishyam 4 After Rs 500 Crore Success

Drishyam 3 director and producer Abishek Pathak told SCREEN that there are no plans for a fourth Hindi instalment, saying the story has reached its end. Ajay Devgn had earlier confirmed that Drishyam: The Conclusion is the finale, adding only a vague “…for now” that sparked fan hope. Pathak reiterated, “All of us believe this is the last part of the film. It depends on the story, and the story has ended.” He hopes October 2 will continue as Drishyam Day, noting the date’s recall value in the franchise. Pathak praised the ending as a poetic love‑letter to the series and to the first film directed by the late Nishikant Kamat in 2015. He declined to reveal spoilers such as the climactic skeleton scene or the role of Sister Pereira. Box‑office data shows the film earned more than Rs 60 crore in its second weekend, a figure many movies never reach in their entire run. Worldwide earnings are closing in on Rs 500 crore, with domestic collections already past Rs 315 crore, outpacing the Malayalam version starring Mohanlal, who publicly praised the Hindi wrap‑up. Pathak explained that the Hindi team exchanged drafts with the Malayalam crew early on but developed an independent script before Jeetu Joseph’s Malayalam sequel. Success of Drishyam 2 guided the decision to stay in the thriller genre rather than shift to a family drama like the Malayalam sequel. New threat Jaideep Ahlawat’s character and Tabu’s IG Meera Deshmukh keep the conflict fresh, while Kamlesh Sawant’s Inspector Gaitonde returns for comic relief, even breaking into “Koi Mil Gaya” during a tense moment.

Context

The Hindi Drishyam series has become a rare case where a Bollywood remake out‑grosses its Malayalam original, showing the growing pull of pan‑India storytelling and the strategic use of release dates to build franchise identity.
