Stock Surge

Vedanta Power shares jumped as much as 13 percent in intraday trade on the BSE on Wednesday, 14 October, aiming to break a five-day losing streak. The stock opened at 30.54 rupees against its previous close of 30.24 rupees and reached an intraday high of 34.25 rupees. This sharp rise followed a trading volume that was more than three times higher than usual.

Market Context

Over the last three months, the stock has dropped 18 percent, while the broader Sensex index fell 5 percent. The company's shares hit a 52-week high of 52.49 rupees on 3 July and a 52-week low of 29.92 rupees on 13 October. Metals and mining major Vedanta demerged into several entities this year, including Vedanta Power, with a record date of 1 May 2026.

Analyst Views

Aditya Thukral, founder and analyst at AT Research and Risk Managers, noted that the stock is in a downtrend and suggested that any bounce towards the 34 to 36 rupee resistance zone acts as an exit opportunity. Vipin Kumar, AVP-Research at Globe Capital Market, stated that the stock is building a base in the 29.90 to 35 rupee range, adding that a close above 35 rupees could push the price towards 38 to 38.50 rupees.

Context

Share prices in newly demerged companies often experience high volatility as the market settles on their true valuation and standalone business performance. Technical analysts monitor trading volumes and support levels to gauge whether a price bounce marks a true trend reversal or just a temporary pause in a wider decline.
