Hyderabad Police Hunt Auto Driver Caught Watching Movie While Driving

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has ordered action against an auto driver caught watching a movie on a phone while driving. A video posted on X on Wednesday showed the driver using two phones and wearing large, illuminated headphones. One phone displayed navigation directions while the other played a movie. The autorickshaw has the registration number TG15U2657. Mr. Sajjanar told the Hyderabad Traffic Police to trace the driver and take strict legal action.

Passenger Safety

Mr. Sajjanar warned that distracted driving puts road safety at risk. He stated that using phones, headphones, or earbuds applies to all vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, buses, and lorries. He urged passengers to speak up if they see drivers using phones or wearing headphones. If drivers ignore these warnings, passengers should call the emergency helpline 112 to report them.

Context

Using mobile phones and wearing headphones behind the wheel diverts a driver's attention from traffic and increases the risk of accidents. Police forces across cities frequently use social media videos shared by citizens to track down traffic violations and penalize offenders.
