PL Capital has raised its 12-month Nifty 50 target to 27,589 from 27,133, but warned that Indian equities could face more drops before they settle. The Nifty 50 has dropped 8.2% in six weeks and 6% year-to-date. Foreign investor selling, poor monsoon rains, higher crude and food prices, rising bond yields, and the Iran-US conflict have hurt market mood.

Top Stock Picks

Despite the weak market, PL Capital listed high-conviction stock picks with a potential upside of up to 52.8%. GE Vernova T&D India leads large-cap picks with a 41.3% upside, followed by ICICI Bank at 36.5% and Britannia Industries at 36.4%. For mid- and small-caps, CESC leads with a 52.8% upside, followed by Amber Enterprises at 43.3% and Healthcare Global Enterprises at 39.2%. The brokerage removed Engineers India and Supreme Industries from its picks, adding Britannia Industries, Bharat Electronics, GE Vernova T&D India, and Mahindra Logistics.

Economy And RBI

India's monsoon ended with a 13% rainfall deficit, and reservoir levels are 21% lower than last year. The Reserve Bank of India raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% and raised its FY27 inflation forecast to 5.2%. Amnish Aggarwal, Co-Head of Institutional Equities at PL Capital, stated that markets face a tough mix of inflation, global tension, and tight money conditions, advising investors to avoid expecting a quick V-shaped recovery.

Context

Stock brokerages often revise their targets based on corporate earnings estimates and macroeconomic factors like inflation and interest rates. Market corrections happen when multiple negative pressures combine, leading investors to favor fundamentally strong companies over broad market rallies.
