Toyota has rolled out a major update for the Glanza hatchback, following the recent refresh of its platform-sharing counterpart, the Maruti Baleno.
Exterior Design
The front end creates the biggest visual split between the two cars. The Glanza features a bold face with a honeycomb grille, silver surrounds, a chrome strip linking the headlamps, and a dual-tone bumper with a gloss black chin spoiler. The Baleno takes an elegant path using a trapezoidal grille with a triangular pattern, three chrome strips, and a monotone sculpted bumper. Both hatchbacks share LED headlamp shapes with distinct inner details, unique 16-inch alloy wheels, and matching chrome finishes on the window line, door handles, front fender garnish, and bootlid strip. Their rear profiles look nearly identical.
Interior And Safety
Inside the cabin, the layout stays largely the same aside from different seat upholstery, color schemes, and badging. Both feature a layered dashboard holding a free-standing infotainment screen and lower physical HVAC switches. Upgraded features on the Glanza now match the Baleno with front seat ventilation and a level 2 ADAS suite. Safety enhancements bring a tire pressure monitoring system and six standard airbags across the lineup.
Engines And Mileage
Both models run on the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine available in petrol and CNG formats. Petrol variants generate 83hp and 112Nm, while CNG variants put out 70hp and 102Nm. Transmission choices for both include a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT gearbox. Claimed fuel efficiency matches completely at 23.80kpl for manual petrol and 24.77kpl for AMT petrol, alongside 33.61km/kg for manual CNG and 34.47km/kg for AMT CNG.
Pricing And Warranty
Price-wise, the petrol Glanza costs up to Rs 1 lakh more than the Baleno depending on the variant chosen, with all figures listed as ex-showroom India. Both cars share an identical warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000 kilometres.
Context
Badge-engineered cars are vehicles built by one manufacturer and sold by another under a different brand name with minor design changes. This partnership model allows car makers to share development costs and offer buyers similar mechanical foundations with distinct styling choices.
