Sheeba Chaddha posted never‑before‑seen Instagram photos that reveal the camaraderie on the set of Aneil Karia’s modern‑day adaptation of Hamlet. She plays Gertrude opposite Riz Ahmed’s Hamlet and Art Malik’s Claudius, while Joe Alwyn also appears in the cast.
Behind the Scenes
The album shows Chaddha hugging Malik, a handwritten note from Karia thanking her for her “spiritual power” and the inspiration she brought, and a group shot where a crew member wears a Santa hat. One frame captures Chaddha in a golden saree with Ahmed in a white kurta splashed with fake blood, hinting at the film’s violence.
Cast Moments
Photos of Riz Ahmed, Art Malik, Joe Alwyn and other actors smiling between takes underscore a lighter mood away from the story’s tension. In her caption, Chaddha calls the project a “magical playing field” and a “real labour of love”, noting that the film finally dropped on JioSaavn after being Riz’s passion project for more than 15 years.
Context
Karia’s version places Shakespeare’s tragedy in present‑day London, inside a wealthy British‑South‑Asian family that runs Elsinore Construction. The adaptation keeps the original themes of grief, betrayal and revenge while updating the setting and family dynamics. Sheeba’s next role will be Manthara in Nitesh Tiwari’s two‑part Ramayana, slated for Diwali 2026 and 2027 releases.
