The central government plans to launch a new power sector data sharing framework in October to make information exchange safe and organized. Union Power Ministry Secretary Pankaj Agarwal shared this update on Wednesday, noting that the draft was previously released for public feedback in June.
Committee And Goals
A national data governance committee led by the Central Electricity Authority Chairperson will manage the initiative alongside government officials and industry members. The voluntary system aims to give utilities clear guidelines on data formatting and safe sharing practices, allowing new companies and industry players to run data analysis for better choices.
Data Centre Plans
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada announced that a fresh policy for data centres is on the way to attract large-scale facilities to India. Speaking at the same event, Mr. Prasada warned about the heavy water and electricity demands of these centres, noting that similar global trends have previously driven up power bills for regular users.
Context
Power infrastructure projects require careful planning to balance high technology demands with the daily electricity needs of ordinary citizens. Setting up clear rules for how energy data is handled helps new tech firms build useful tools without risking grid security.
