Actor R Madhavan has shared that he consciously chose not to compete with Tamil cinema stars Vijay and Ajith Kumar for mainstream leading roles. In an old interview with A Tube, Madhavan stated that he felt he did not possess the specific talent that Vijay and Ajith have, which led him to create his own path by focusing on deep character work instead of box-office stardom. This choice meant he had to commit fully to his roles, making it hard for him to jump quickly between multiple films like commercial stars do. He admitted that this approach caused him to miss out on many good films over the years. During the same conversation, Madhavan opened up about working with Kamal Haasan in the film Anbe Sivam. He revealed that several people warned him against taking the project, claiming Kamal Haasan would pressure him on set. He ignored these warnings and found the experience to be completely different from the rumors. Instead of a domineering atmosphere, they shared a collaborative working relationship where both actors exchanged feedback after rehearsals. Madhavan described working on the movie as transformative, comparing the experience to attending a university and earning a degree.
