A special voter enrolment drive begins in Keralam on Thursday, running until October 31 as announced by the Election Commission of India.

Registration Process

Chief Electoral Officer D. Sajith Babu stated that citizens need to fill out only Form 6 to add their names to the voter rolls, without any extra declaration forms. People can submit their applications online through the Citizen Service Portal or the Voter Helpline App. Digital help desks will operate at village offices during the same dates from October 15 to October 31. After online submission, booth-level officers will conduct a physical verification of the applications. Applicants must provide any one approved document showing their photograph, age, and address. Voters who submit Aadhaar as proof must also provide an additional supporting document. Earlier this month, the Chief Electoral Officer instructed electoral registration officers to check differences between the voter list from January 1, 2025, and the list released after the Assembly elections. Officers also verified applications marked as uncollected during the Special Intensive Revision that missed the post-election list.

Youth Outreach And Monitoring

Authorities have planned a special drive called 'Campus to Booth' in schools and colleges to build voter awareness among young people. Chief Electoral Officer D. Sajith Babu and additional chief electoral officers will travel across Keralam to perform random checks and monitor how the enrolment drive progresses.

Context

Special voter roll revision drives help keep election lists accurate by adding new eligible voters and removing errors. These periodic updates ensure that young people turning voting age can participate in upcoming democratic elections without difficulty.
