Mahindra SUV earns top marks in new safety tests

The Mahindra XUV 7XO has received a five-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP for adult and child safety. The vehicle scored 30.76 out of 32 points for adult protection and 44.97 out of 49 points for child protection. Bharat NCAP tested the seven-seater AX7 diesel-automatic front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, but the top safety rating applies to every variant in the line-up.

Adult Safety

During the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the driver got good protection for the head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet, while chest and tibia protection was adequate. For the co-driver, all critical parts received good protection except the tibiae, which got adequate protection. In the side-movable deformable barrier test, all critical parts of the passenger got good protection, and the side pole impact test received an okay verdict.

Child Safety and Features

For child occupant protection, child seats for both eighteen-month-old and three-year-old dummies faced backward. The frontal crash test gave the younger dummy 7.97 out of 8 points and the older dummy a full 8 points, while both scored 4 out of 4 in the side crash test. This led to a dynamic score of 23.97 out of 24 points, a child restraint system installation score of 12 out of 12, and a vehicle assessment score of 9 out of 13. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, hill-hold and hill-descent assists, ISOFIX anchors, traction control, and electronic stability control. Higher variants add a 360-degree camera, level two advanced driver assistance systems, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The older pre-facelift model, named the XUV700, earned five stars for adults and four stars for children when tested by Global NCAP in 2021.
