Tata Punch takes top spot as India's best-selling car in August 2026

The Tata Punch secured the position of India's best-selling car in August 2026 by registering 21,320 units sold. It moved ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the Maruti Suzuki Swift in the monthly rankings. Across the board, the top 10 car models in the country combined to record 1,83,037 units sold, showing a jump from the 1,37,334 units sold during August 2025. Out of the top 10 models, nine posted year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki alone secured six spots on this bestseller list.

Market Context

This overall growth happened because August 2025 had a lower sales base. Back then, many buyers delayed their purchases and car companies slowed down dispatches to dealers as everyone awaited tax changes under the Goods and Services Tax that were announced during that month.
