Biju Janata Dal supremo Naveen Patnaik has described the Mohan Charan Majhi government as the epitome of mismanagement and inefficiency.
Criticism
Speaking at the launch of his party's month-long public outreach programme on October 2, 2026, the former Chief Minister said the administration failed to properly manage the Rath Yatra, flood relief, paddy procurement, recruitment exams, and state finances. He also pointed out a lack of school textbooks and pensions for the elderly, along with declining revenue collection, falling budget spending, and a rising debt burden.
Reactions
Mr Patnaik further accused the state government of staying silent while the central government took away local rights over mines, adding that the state's 20 BJP MPs remained quiet on the issue while being ready to fight for mine owners.
Context
The Biju Janata Dal launched its annual Jan Sampark Padayatra on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to connect directly with citizens. Major political parties in India often use foot marches and mass contact campaigns to build grassroots support and highlight government shortcomings.
